About a year ago I decided to wave my white flag. I was calling it quits. I was no longer going to fight.
Life will go on whether you make positive changes or not. Life won't stop because you're spending time standing on the scale, pinching your fat and over-analyzing every morsel of food you eat.
It is officially December. I wasn't feeling that "Christmas-y" up until I wrote first sentence so cheers to that! I'm not sure where time has gone, but 2016 is on its way out (#byefelicia - you will NOT be missed). This is the time where most begin to evaluate the past year in hopes of bringing a "bigger & better" follow-up year. I hope that by sharing my reflections on my business that you will better understand me and the change that I want to create.
Here's the thing…I knew those words were coming from my client because I saw the fire brewing when they pushed themselves for the last 100 meters of their row. I saw the fire when they pulled air into their lungs to grind out their last deadlift. I saw the smile take over their face when they were drenched with sweat and completed what they thought wasn't possible.
The issue is society's portrayal of female lifters. There's no wonder that women are fearful of using a barbell. Magazines barely show women lifting (unless you read niche magazines), celebrities promote wacky workouts and women have the added struggle of combating they neat little box they're meant to fit into.
Having practice is the reason that some obstacles seem small to one person and look like freaking Mount Fuji to another.
Whatever it is, it feels like fire. It always shows itself just when I need it to. Just when I'm about to quit. Right then, my legs quicken their pace, my lungs speed up their breath and my mind becomes hardened and focused.
Society does not set the bar of what I am capable of. society does not set the bar of what I achieve.
I set my own bar. And when I beat it? I set it again.
So. Here's to unexpected late nights, last minute adventures and seeing what life has to offer when you throw away the schedule.
